The Weekend Plan with Yelp’s Leighann Farrelly

Oh hey, ONEin3ers! If you managed to survive the green-beer guzzling, clover-wearing, bar-hopping, whiskey-drinking fiasco that is St. Patrick’s Day in the city of Boston, you deserve at least five stars. Though your head may still be pounding, you’ve got to focus on the future: a glorious 60-degree weekend! So grab a couple of aspirin and get your butt in gear, cause with warm weather on the way, I suggest we start the weekend on Thursday!

When the clock strikes five, get out of the office and into the sunshine by hustling it over to Harvard Square. Noir is offering a delicious deal: purchase any $6 beverage and you can order up some super-cheap snacks from their 5-4-3-2-1-0 Menu, which starts with complimentary nuts and ends with flatbread for just $5.  Once the countdown is complete, hop on the 66 Bus, just a short walk from Noir, and head over to Allston where a local band is bringing sexy back to Great Scott. The Timberfakes, covering the best in JT’s booty-moving hits, will open for Miss Fairchild and the cover is just $9.

Starting your weekend with a jolt has never been easier, with the kick-off of the North East Regional Barista Competition at Arts at The Armory in Somerville. Watch as these coffee-making connoisseurs create espresso-based concoctions in a fierce battle for a spot at the United States Barista Championship in April. Get your caffeine fix on Friday and Saturday from 12 pm – 4 pm and Sunday from 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm. If you’re brave enough, there are thrills to be had in JP. Let Matthew Battles dazzle you on a Walking Tour of Forest Hills Cemetery. Educational, exhilarating and down-right creepy, you’ll spend the afternoon covering everything from lamenting for the literary buried there to uncovering the craft behind the art of the crypts.

If your voracious visual appetite has yet to be quenched, The MIT Museum is serving up a stunning display of imagery on Sunday, from 10-5pm. Gaze upon the world’s largest collection of holograms in Holography: The Light Fantastic, where you’ll be simultaneously exposed to use of holograms in both science and art. After sating your ocular senses, it’s time to get back off the wagon with a hops-and-barley journey through Somerville and Cambridge on the New England Real Ale Exhibition Pub Crawl. With four bars totaling over 84 beers on tap, this sudsy stomp is guaranteed ensure you’ll end the weekend with a bang. And just incase the morning after isn’t so sweet, take a peek at Yelp’s recommendations for hangover cures in and around Boston. Cheers, my dears!

The Weekend Plan, with Yelp’s Leighann Farrelly

What a week, ONEin3ers! Though it’s all but in the past, this particular seven-day stretch in mid-January is one we won’t soon forget. Whether you consider Tuesday’s election results triumph or tragedy, I think it’s safe to say we could all use a drink…or two. And since this post is all about what’s poppin’ on the weekend, we’ll forgo the political analysis in favor of finding some fun straight through till Sunday. No trucks, back-ally deals or American Idol failures required.

What’s up You Ask? The Weekend Plan, with Yelp’s Leighann Farrelly

What up, ONEin3ers! Welcome to Fun Thursday’s Weekend Plan. I know you work hard, all week long, clocking those hours, counting ’em down until those last few minutes become freedom on Friday. But what to do and where to go when those happy hours finally arrive? I’ve got you covered.

With humpday happily behind us, the only obstacle to a work-free weekend is the first half of Friday! And that brings up an important lesson in math: proportion! By now, it’s painfully obvious that the ratio of workdays to fun days (5:2) is clearly not in our favor.  So, instead of sitting around on our bums and wasting those precious hours catching up on the latest Kardashian crisis, peep our picks for prime weekend planning; from art to music to new restaurants, your DVD collection will be dust covered in no time.
